My Thoughts On…
Overall Plot:
I like the premise. It’s fun getting a movie where the people are falling out of love, or at least coming to a place where their relationship just doesn’t work anymore.
I adore the montage of bits from their lives over the years to give us a taste of things. It’s so fun, so sad, so cute, just rip my heart out💔
I also love the snippets throughout the movie of scenes from Jenny and Nate’s life together. It was so cute watching them fall in love and then be in love. It made it easy to feel sad for Jenny as things between her and Nate started not working.
This movie had a lot of moments of levity from the girls and across their journey to get the tickets for Neon Classic. Also, very funny scene in the Craigslist guy’s apartment. He was a weirdo, but also adorable. The actor did great, he was a vibe.
I love Blair and Matt together. I hate that Blair cheated. It shouldn’t be such a hard thing to not cheat on someone, even if you’re bored and unhappy in your relationship. Matt and Blair were very cute though, so it was very hard for me not to like their scenes together. At this point, I want a romance movie just about them ahaha🤭
Erin and Leah were very cute too honestly. I love Leah! She may be my favourite character. She was kind, understanding and patient with Erin and her needs. She was the perfect person for Erin. Erin was being kind of a shit with avoiding talking about meeting Leah’s friends, but I can understand her fear and I just wanted her to communicate with Leah. Leah was a gem for waiting for Erin to be comfortable to communicate. Actually, now that I think about it, I’d also like a romance movie about them too!
Jenny was a real mess in this movie. Understandable after a breakup from a relationship of nine years.
I’m not a big fan of drug use being so “necessary” in these movies. It’s just crazy to me. I might be just be a scaredy-cat to think drugs shouldn’t be so necessary in movies (and real life) for people to blow off steam and have fun. I will just never not find it funny that in school and growing up, everyone tells you how dangerous drugs can be and then all these movies promote drugs as such a fun thing😂
Back to the movie though! I really liked the emotional moments wedged in between the jokes. They succeeded in getting me right in the gut a few times with Jenny’s heartbreak as well as with some moments with Erin.
Ending:
I think this story ended exactly how it needed to. This movie was not actually about Jenny and Nate; it was about Jenny and her friends. I’m glad that they didn’t cop out and just give a cheesy ending that didn’t feel right, they stuck to Jenny, Blair, and Erin’s friendship and I liked it.
Enjoyment/How much the story hooked me:
I enjoyed this movie. It wasn’t phenomenal or anything, but I had a good time watching it. The movie was entertaining and sad and sweet. I think they did a decent job blending the emotions together so it was an enjoyable story.
My Ratings…
Likability of Main Character:
Jenny was decent. She was a woman with a broken heart and I felt for her. She pissed me off sometimes, like it’s just not cool guilt-tripping your friends into skipping work, but they do have free will and didn’t have to do it. I was happy to follow her journey, and I’m glad she was able to work through things somewhat through the movie.
Likability of Secondary Main Character:
I’m a big fan of Blair. She was very sweet to her friends, and I thought she was a fun character. I think she was also kind of a shithead. I mean she cheated on her boyfriend and barely batted an eye about it. She and the other two had very similar chaotic energies to them, so I mean, they were friends for a reason🤷
Likability of Secondary Main Character:
Erin was fun. I didn’t hate her or anything, but she was a little irritating. She just exuded an air of “I’m better than you” and I didn’t like that. But she was a decent friend, and I’m proud of her for opening up to her partner (I don’t remember if they decided they were in fact girlfriends or not) and being able to talk to her.
Chemistry of Couple:
—
Because I don’t count this as a romance movie, I’m not qualifying Jenny and Nate’s chemistry, or his likability. The movie simply isn’t about their relationship in that way, so it’s just kind of impossible to rate it.
Overall Rating:
I like this movie. I think if I wanna get in my feels about a breakup, I’ll probably opt for Eternal Sunshine of the Mind, but this one’s a decent heartbreak too (less of the ickiness from the weirdos who work at the mind erasing place), but this has more of a pull towards friendship and I do like that.
