Head Over Heels

Under One Roof – Book 2

Serena Bell

Romance

They thought they were wrong for each other. That was before she moved in. . . .

Chase:
Take it from me, never hire your best friend to be your live-in nanny. Because it’s a lot easier to be friends with a woman who isn’t prancing around your house in yoga pants. As a newly full-time dad, I needed help fast. I knew she was good with kids. And I thought things between us were strictly platonic. Now, with Olivia Stratten crashing in my guest room and steaming up the bathroom with the scent of her shampoo, it’s getting harder and harder—no pun intended—to remember all the reasons we’re supposed to be incompatible.

Liv: When Chase Crayton asked me to watch his five-year-old daughter until he could find someone full-time, I was afraid we’d drive each other nuts. But with Chase’s job on the line, I couldn’t say no. What I didn’t anticipate was how combustible our chemistry would be in close quarters. Neither of us did. After all, we first met on a blind date, and by the end of it, we were laughing about how terrible we’d be as a couple. In the two years since, nothing ever happened between us, not even a kiss—not until last night. . . .

Head Over Heels is a standalone novel with no cheating, no cliffhangers, and a satisfying happily ever after.

Overall Plot:

Very fun premise right off the bat. I like the slight difference in ‘nanny and single dad’ by making the nanny his friend. I’m not typically a huge fan of friends-to-lovers, but I did really enjoy this one!

I love a story with a well-written child and a sweet dynamic between the kid and the adults. I’m also very glad it was a situation where the child was important to the story and she did actually feature in the story (I have read multiple books where the kid barely comes into play and it’s insane to me).

Chase and Liv had a very teasing and fun dynamic throughout the whole book. They were clearly attracted to each other, but each had their own reasons for wanting to keep the relationship platonic. It was very sweet that even with that, they were still very much drawn to one another.

I like that there were a few things going on with their lives that were present but not overwhelming to the story. We didn’t get berated by issues with Liv’s car or anything, which thank god. It was just something we knew and was described and it didn’t need more attention than it was given. Chase was also concerned with wanting to buy the store he worked at, and that was important. The store stuff was fed to us in the perfect amount in my opinion. I was curious about it because he was so invested in it and it was genuinely important, but it wasn’t more important than his relationship with Liv or moments with Katie.

I loved getting to watch stubborn-towards-their-own-feelings Liv and Chase go through their romantic moments together, their jealousy, their comfort being around each other. I loved that we got moments of them talking to their friends outside of one another and it felt genuine. I loved watching them play with Katie or comfort the heartbroken child missing her mom.

We also got them together rather quickly and I live for that. I love getting as many romantic moments as possible, so I’m always pleased the faster they get together (even if that means I still have to sit through denial of feelings).

Problem/Crisis (in relationship):

Liv ran away😭 Like, I get it, she has trust issues and is afraid of getting hurt, but this hurt me. And she pissed me off the way she did it, actually. She was so adamant throughout the story that she believed in Chase and she had to go and act like he couldn’t change, like wtf😭

If you’re like me, your heart will break when Liv runs. She literally broke her own heart doing it! (Also, it’s so damn painful having Katie get caught up in the heartbreak of Liv leaving)

Resolution:

I’m eternally grateful that Liv is the one that has to come back. It’s good. She needed to be the one to fight for things and realize that sometimes you may get hurt and you can’t always run away, especially if you don’t want to in the first place.

Ending (+ Epilogue):

So good. So sweet. I love that everyone was so happy. Liv finally has a forever home! Chase has someone who believes in him wholeheartedly. Katie has her family🥰

The epilogue was fun because we got to get a little taste of what’s to come in Sawyer’s book! It’s not the best epilogue since it’s not about Chase and Liv, but hey, I got some of their sweet little homelife, and it did get me excited about going to Sawyer’s story😄

AND, blessed Serena gifted us with an extra scene on her website that’s an amazing little freebie and gives me what I crave (a proposal😆)!

Enjoyment/How much the story hooked me:

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

Liv is great. She makes me sad, but I love her anyway. I get frustrated with her fear, but she’s so kind, caring, strong, and just awesome. She’s a fun character and it breaks my heart that she wasn’t able to find a proper home and became so scared of things. I’m so happy she has a loving home now.

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

Chase is a sweetheart. He’s so great. I love how much he loves his daughter. He’s passionate, he has a big heart, he’s fragile, he’s a delight. I’m furious at his parents and I feel bad for Chase growing up.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

They’re amazing. They’re so full of fun banter, they’re opposite but in a very compatible way. They make my heart warm and they’re so cute.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

I will give whatever I want a five-star rating, and I want to give this five stars. It’s better than I had remembered. It made me laugh, smile, and cry. I love it.
